IJE BUOR SALGYN PT.3
Performative ritual act, 15 min, wooden totem, 4DSOUND installation. SSS Syndicate of Sound and Space, AQB art quarter budapest, May 2023
The third form of IJE BUOR SALGYN is a performative ritual act that explores the potential of ritualistic practices in a physical space. It continues the research about time-based media and perception of linearity and non-linearity.
Due to 4DSOUND technology, it was possible to create a sound environment – the jew’s harp improvisation – that could work as an extension of the cyclic movement. Lasting for 15 minutes, the ritual had two parts: performers started by winding the hair around the Serge (the Sakha sacred tree) and after reaching the upper point they began unwinding. That referred to the concept of ritual architecture: in Sakha culture participants of a ritual act should enter and exit the transcending spiritual state they aim to reach. It is important to follow the structure since this framework opens the space for the investigation of different spiritual levels.
At the end of the performance, the audience could participate in the ritual act by touching the Serge and making a clockwise circle around it. The performance became an experience for the viewer who could integrate with the environment through watching, listening, moving and touching.
