IJE BUOR SALGYN PT.2
Photozine based on the performance photographic documentation, tracing semi-trasparent paper. Budapest, June 2023
The continuation of the IJE BUOR SALGYN video project is materialized in the photographic zine form that explores the concept of time in a paper form. The documentation of the performative act as a series of long-exposure pictures became a basis for the zine. Printed on semi-transparent paper, it creates a different perspective of the project: the viewer can experience timeless cyclic movement on another surface.
The zine questions the concept of time-based media as a predetermined form of visual perception. In general, the process of turning pages is linear: it is based on our sense of time and the cultural reading tradition. Here – the combination of long-exposure photographs and semi-transparent paper creates a game for the reader who can lose the sense of linearity while going through the zine. The viewing becomes performative: the time is reduced. The movement of pages disrupts the movement of the documented performative act making it non-sequential.
The photographic sequence is a series of long-exposure shots with increasing captured time. Starting with 1/200 exposure, the series ends with a photograph which is a documentation of the whole performance that lasted for 6 minutes. This questions the possibility of photographic media to capture the long-duration process and transform a three-dimensional spatial act into a two-dimensional image.
